Garden and Gravel

July 9, 2006

We put some gravel along the road and also some pictures of the garden.

Here's the garden today.  Pretty much everything is growing wildly out of control.  Everywhere you look, you can see 'poor planning'.. But, that's what next year is for.. :-)

The zucchini is overtaking  pretty much everything.  I'm starting to eat the onions that are getting overrun by the zucchini.  I'm wacking the zucchini back with the clippers so the peppers that are getting overrun have a chance.  Since the peppers are in short supply and the zucchini is way too much.  Most of the leaves on here are bigger than a large dinner plate.

Um.. We're learning how to pick them.  Whoops, broke it off.  Some people would wait until these things are the size of a football, but we've been told.. pick them when they are like a cucumber..  I sliced these up, sliced the onion too, added a clove of garlic, cooked it in a small amount of olive oil,  and yah.. it's pretty good stuff.

Here's how that ditch is turning out.

Today, we trimmed the dirt/grass part back to this 'line' and put in the gravel all along.  We don't have the Ford to haul gravel anymore so we end up having Ground Effects Landscape supply deliver the gravel at about $40 per trip.  I would have spent $10 on diesel doing it myself, and I save $60 everytime I gas up the Prius instead of the powerstroke.  It all works.

This corner needed new gravel pretty bad.

Grow boys grow!!!!  Hopefully the grass will take this thing over within a month.  It's hard to water now because it can start to run-off after a bit, constantly moving sprinklers and watching it like a hawk.  We need the grass to control this before we have any prophetic flood style rains come in and wreck it.
